Announces Campaign
for Chairman of DC Council
WASHINGTON, DC —
Patricia Stamper is running for Chairman of the DC Council to bring lived experience and practical solutions to the District’s most pressing challenges. From her roots in foster care to her work as a single mother and ANC Commissioner, Stamper understands that DC residents deserve a government that shows up on time.
"I know what it’s like to live one crisis away from losing your footing," Stamper said. "I’m running to lead a Council that builds floors, not just ceilings."
Key Priorities:
-
Public Safety: Real safety in every neighborhood through prevention and accountability.
-
Education: Strengthening schools to support the next generation.
-
Stability: Meaningful support for working families, immigrants, and the unhoused.
paign focused on public safety that works, stronger schools, and practical support for working families across all eight wards.
Stamper was raised in foster homes and is raising two boys as a single mother. She says that life experience is not a talking point. It is the reason she is running, and it shapes the issues she is most determined to take on, especially the impact of instability on young people and the pressure on parents trying to hold it all together.
“I’m running because too many DC residents are living one crisis away from losing their footing, and our city’s systems too often make it harder, not easier,” said Stamper. “I know what it feels like when support shows up late or not at all. I also know what’s possible when government is focused on results.”
Stamper’s priorities include:
Youth and community safety that works: investing in prevention and intervention, strengthening accountability, and making sure public safety is real in every neighborhood.
Support for parents and working families: easing the childcare burden, improving access to city services, and protecting families from instability and displacement.
Opportunity for residents who are being left behind: coordinated, outcomes-driven support for immigrants, low-income residents, and neighbors experiencing homelessness.
Stamper has served as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner and worked across community and government spaces to advocate for Ward 7 and the District as a whole.

Expanding Access to Public
Meetings Through Child &
Senior Care
Too many DC residents are locked out of civic participation simply because they cannot find or afford care for their loved ones. This policy focuses on making public meetings accessible to parents, caregivers, and seniors by removing structural barriers to participation.
Public Meeting Access
&
Care Support Act
This legislative proposal ensures District agencies hosting public meetings provide on-site childcare and senior care support. The goal is to increase civic engagement across all eight wards and ensure equitable access for working families, caregivers, and older residents.
